One of the institutions without which it is impossible to imagine the cultural life of Rijeka is commemorating a valuable anniversary these days. The City Museum of Rijeka was founded by the decision of the City Council on April 11, 1994. This happened after the renaming of the Museum of the People’s Revolution, the former institution from which the new institution took over the headquarters, collections and employees. The City Museum continued to work in the same building. Due to its shape, which is signed by the architect Neven Šegvić, today it is popularly called “The Cube” (Kockica). The thirtieth anniversary is celebrated with an exhibition in “The Cube”, which leads us through the current museum collections of the institution and other museum activities. The exhibition testifies that the City Museum has collected historical and artistic material over the past 30 years, which made it necessary to form new museum collections and documentation materials. The public was continuously introduced to such activities through numerous exhibition and publishing activities, as the timeline of the institution shows at the exhibition. On the occasion of the anniversary, the Museum has prepared a catalogue that recaps everything that has been done in the past, and provides an “ID card” for the Museum today.
The exhibition “30 Years of the City Museum of Rijeka” was officially opened on the institution’s birthday, April 11, and can be visited until July 5, 2024. Occasional events will continue throughout the year: lectures, publications, round tables, guided tours and educational workshops. This will involve the City Museum staff and other experts on heritage topics.
