The exhibition "Fashion and Comics" opens at the City Museum for the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the French Institute at the University of Zagreb, whose task is to give a boost to the promotion of the French language, literature and culture in Croatia.
In a series of events organized for that occasion, the exhibition “Fashion and Comics” was organized, which comes from the Museum of Comics in Angouleme. It is designed to offer visitors an insight into more than a hundred exhibits. These are drawings, clothes, fashion accessories, perfumes and various publications. The Museum of Comics is unique in Europe, and has 14,000 original boards and drawings, printed and audiovisual editions, and various other objects closely related to the medium of comics. In addition there is exhibits borrowed from public and private collections, such as museum institutions, fashion houses, galleries, as well as from the collections of individual collectors and artists. The link between fashion and comics is direct, it was often created under the influence of comic book heroes and heroines. Just think of Corto Maltese’s hat and earrings, black Modesty Blaise sets, Valentine’s bangs and more. Comics are a medium from which fashion designers drew inspiration, and the film also played a role in that connection.
The exhibition opens on April 9th, at the “cube”, the building on R. Zanelle Square 1. It is organized in cooperation with Rijeka 2020, which in turn organized the event with the French Institute and the Museum of Arts and Crafts.
