From 1st July, 2022, visitors to the Sugar Palace can once again enjoy the paintings of the “Unknown Klimt – Love, Death, Ecstasy” exhibition. Until recently, the Rijeka exhibition was on tour at the Klovićevi dvori Gallery, where the Zagreb public could see it from 12th April  to 26th June. The exhibition was very well received by visitors to the Klovićevi dvori Gallery. This is not a surprise, having in mind the kind of artistic discovery it brings. It presents nine lesser-known works by the Viennese painters Gustav Klimt, Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch, created especially for the decoration of the theatre building in Rijeka in 1885. These paintings by three artists are their first individually signed works. During the preparation of the exhibition, it was also established that they were not made in the oil technique, as had been commonly thought, but rather in tempera on canvas. Of course, special attention is attracted by the works by Gustav Klimt, who became one of the world’s biggest art stars after the artistic episode in Rijeka. The works of the three Viennese painters were seen by 6,900 visitors in the Klovićevi dvori Gallery.
