The art collection includes a variety of holdings – paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures – related to the history of Rijeka. Thus, the collection contains views of the city, portraits of famous people from Rijeka and works by Rijeka artists, as well as works related to famous Rijeka families or institutions. While the City Museum focuses mainly on collecting works from the 19th and 20th centuries, the art collection also includes works created in the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition to the systematic purchase, which complements the museum holdings, the works also arrive at the Museum as donations.
