The Varia Collection, as its name suggests, keeps in its holdings diverse objects important for presenting all segments of Rijeka’s history, purchased or often donated, mostly dated back to the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century, which is envisaged to be sorted in the future, according to collection dynamics, by existing museum collections. Most of the Varia Collection was shown at the exhibition Trsat Shrine in the collections of the City Museum of Rijeka, in 2007, when a sub-collection of devotionals (santines, prayer books, rosaries, votive gifts) was presented, or in 2008 at the exhibition Advertisements in Rijeka 1890-1940, when the Collection holdings presented the period from 1890 to 1940, i.e. the beginnings of advertising in the Rijeka area. Advertisements of reputable retailers, hotels, registered dealers or fashion houses, advertising hangers, painted packaging, paper bags with the manufacturer’s logo, packaging of well-known companies, items for personal use or legacy of individuals and companies, are all items that become witnesses of time when needed and vividly present the topic. All the above mentioned and exhibited holdings collected in the last four years, produced or used in the Rijeka area, speaks of the life of the city population at the turn of the century.
