The World Biennial of Student Posters and Student Photography was initiated by the Academy of Arts of the University of Novi Sad. It is a student event organized by the Department of Photography and the Department of Graphic Communications, with a biennial of posters being held for even years, and photography for odd years. This event was preceded by three internal biennials of photography held for students of the Novi Sad Academy, and the first biennial had taken place in 2004 on the premises of the Government of Vojvodina. The competition is intended only for photography students or students with photography included in their higher education curricula, and the submission of the work to the competition must be approved by their professor. Although it is a student event, the awards are of a professional level. Following the opening of the exhibition of selected works in Novi Sad, the exhibition had been presented to the public in Rijeka and Banja Luka on a regular basis. In addition to these cities, exhibition works had visited Osijek, Sarajevo, Podgorica, Ludwigsburg, as well as Hungary and Bulgaria in previous years. This has already become not only a traditional, but also a successful event, as confirmed by the fact that there were over 3,500 pieces of art received for the eighth biennial that was held late in 2018, sent from all continents. They had been created as students’ course assignments in the last few semesters of their study. This fact offers the possibility for comparison of school curricula, as well as of different concepts of photography, as practice shows, over the wide area from Canada to China.
